Mock Nutrition Counseling Session
NFSC 365: Nutrition Education and Counseling
Skill Area: Nutrition Counseling
Assignment Title: Critique of Video Taped Counseling Session
What I learned: Before this assignment, I learned the basics of motivational interviewing and practiced these skills. During this assignment, I learned how to use these skills throughout an entire counseling session. After the session, I learned how to critique my skills and myself by watching the recording of me interviewing an actor.
Reflection to assignment: This assignment allowed me to use the motivational interviewing skills that I learned in class. Learning how to effectively counsel my clients as it relates to food is important to me. Motivational interviewing gave me the skills to effectively help my clients grow and change in ways that are best for them.
Relevance to the profession: Nutrition counseling is an important skill to have. As a clinical or outpatient dietitian, you will be faced with clients needing to or desiring to make changes in their lives to better their health. It is important to meet a client where they are in the stages of change in order to make an impact.
