Independent Honors Research Project
NFSC 499H: Honors in Food and Nutrition Sciences
Skill Area: Nutrition Research
Assignment Title: Association of Parental Attitudes and Restrictions During Childhood on College Students' Eating Habits (Quantitative Research)
What I learned: I learned how to develop and carry out a research project. I also learned how to apply for grants to fund my research. I used validated questionnaires to conduct a retrospective study to survey students and their parents regarding past eating behaviors and restrictions to compare to students’ current eating behaviors and attitudes regarding food. I then compiled and interrupted the data. I presented my research at the California Dietetics Association Conference in April 2014.
Reflection to assignment: This assignment was extremely valuable to me. I conducted every aspect of the research.
Relevance to the profession: This project is relevant to the field of nutrition because being able to conduct quality research is critical to the advancement of the field.
My research project also won Chico State's Natural Sciences 10th Anuual Poster Board Session Undergraduate People's Choice Award.
